Alexis Davis is heading back to the Octagon after a year and a half away from the sport, and she has no easy task for her first assignment back.
Davis is set to take on Sara McMann at The Ulitmate Fighter 24 Finale on Dec. 3, according to ESPN.
Davis has not fought since April 2015 when she defeated Sarah Kaufman at UFC 186 via submission, finally picking up a victory over the veteran after losing to her twice in her professional career beforehand; the first time being her professional debut in 2007.
Since her last fight though, Davis became pregnant and gave birth to her son earlier this year. After taking some more time off though, Davis is headed back to resume her MMA career.
This is the second long layoff she has had in her career, with the first one coming before her last bout. Before defeating Kaufman, Davis had spent nearly 10 months on the shelf after challenging Ronda Rousey for the women’s bantamweight title at UFC 175 — Davis was knocked out in just 16 seconds.
McMann last fought at UFC Fight Night 88 after going through a rough patch in her career. She picked up the unanimous decision victory over Jessica Eye, but before that had gone 1-3 in her last four bouts — losing to Rousey, Miesha Tate, and Amanda Nunes.
The Ultimate 24 Finale is expected to host a flyweight title fight where Demetrious Johnson will look to make his ninth title defense against the winner of the season in the main event. Also expected to take place is a fight between the two coaches, Joseph Benavidez and Henry Cejudo, in the co-main event.
