“The Last Emperor” Fedor Emelianenko says he is working on getting his next fight, but nothing is official yet.
“We are now negotiating my next fight, but the contract is not signed with any organization,” Emelianenko wrote on his Instagram (English translation via Bloody Elbow). “Before the official announcement, all information about the negotiations are confidential and neither party can not disclose it. As long as I’ve been training as usual, has not yet started to prepare the specific opponent. Today, many people use the lack of information about my next fight for their own purposes.”
Emelianenko last fought under the Eurasia Fight Nights banner where he took on former UFC light heavyweight Fabio Maldonado at EFN 50. Emelianenko was nearly finished on several occasions in the first round, but came back to fight competitively in the following two rounds. The scorecards were highly controversial and read a unanimous decision victor for Emelianenko when most thought the bout should have been a draw at minimum.
It was his second bout since returning from retirement in 2015 after spending three years away from the sport.
Former UFC interim heavyweight champion Shane Carwin recently announced his own return to the sport and caught attention when he said he had accepted a bout with “The Last Emperor” under the Rizin Fight Federation banner.
Emelianenko, though, does not know where Carwin’s claims are coming from because he said he is not negotiating with Rizin FF to begin with.
“We were not and are not conducting negotiations for a fight with the company Rizin. Therefore, the information regarding Shane Carwin’s acceptance to meet me in the ring is surprising for me. No proposals from the Japanese promotion arrived to me. In the near future we will announce the date of my fight from official sources.”
