Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos is itching to get back in the Octagon.
Dos Santos’ biggest problem is finding an opponent, so he is willing to jump in for anyone who gets injured in the next two months if that is what it takes.
Two of dos Santos’ former opponents, Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum, are set to fight at UFC 207.
“In case Werdum falls out, I would fight with Velasquez for the fourth time”, dos Santos told AGFight. “I think he would accept if it, too, while, on the other hand, I don’t think Werdum would accept even though he says he would.”
Dos Santos last fought at UFC Fight Night 86 where he defeated Ben Rothwell in a one-sided unanimous decision. The way he sees it, the best option for the next heavyweight title fight should be him challenging champion Stipe Miocic in what would be a rematch from their 2014 bout which dos Santos won.
“If the UFC wants a show, it has to be us: me and Miocic”, dos Santos said. “Werdum’s last win against [Travis] Browne was a shame, for his opponent as well – ugly fight. Velasquez lost to Werdum, which raised doubts. In his last fight against Browne… Browne seems to be going through a difficult time, so I don’t know. There was a guy who was at the top, which was Ben Rothwell, and I beat him.”
Dos Santos went on to say he was unable to get a rematch with Alistair Overeem too. But whoever he steps in the cage with next is in for a rough night.
“I’m training, and I’m happy. Whoever will stand in front of me, he will suffer,” dos Santos said. “I’m feeling good, I’m training well, I have no complaints to make. And I’m going to turn this into results.”
