Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal continues to prove he will fight anyone at any weight as he is set to make a return to the heavyweight division in his next bout.
Bellator announced Wednesday that its Bellator 169 event on Dec. 16 would be headlined by Lawal taking on Satoshi Ishii.
“King Mo” last fought at Bellator 154 where he took on ex-UFC fighter Phil Davis in a light heavyweight title eliminator.
Lawal lost the unanimous decision, sending Davis on his way to get a shot against the Bellator light heavyweight champ Liam McGreary in the near future.
This is far from the first time “King Mo” has competed among the heavyweight ranks despite being a natural light heavyweight.
His professional debut bout took place against heavyweight Travis Wiuff in Sengoku before the pair would eventually both make their way to Bellator many years later.
Lawal has also fought heavyweight legend Mark Kerr and most recently took on ex-UFC fighter Cheick Kongo at Bellator 134, defeating the much bigger fighter by split decision.
Ishii made his Bellator debut in his most recent bout, taking on Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in a 225-catchweight bout.
The two fought at Bellator 157: Dynamite 2 in the main event slot.
Ishii lost by split decision.
Before that, Ishii had done the large bulk of his pro fighting in Japan since debuting in 2009.
Among his list of opponents includes legends and veterans like Hidehiko Yoshida, Ikuhisa Minowa, Fedor Emelianenko, Tim Sylvia, Pedro Rizzo, and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic.
Bellator 169 will take place in Dublin, Ireland, where Bellator will collaborate with BAMMA for a full day of MMA action.
