Ricardo Lamas may be able to give his family a nice Christmas after all.
The top featherweight contender is currently being eyed for a matchup against Charles Oliveira Nov. 5 at UFC Fight Night 98 in Mexico City. The bout was first reported by FloCombat, later confirmed by FOX Sports.
Lamas was originally scheduled to meet former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion B.J. Penn at UFC Fight Night 97 in October, but was forced out of the now-canceled event after Penn confirmed an injury the week before.
Ranked fourth in the division, Lamas is 3-2 in his last five contests. He most recently fought at UFC 199 in June, dropping a unanimous decision to surging contender Max Holloway. His other recent loss came against Chad Mendes via TKO. Lamas’ three victories since a 2014 championship loss against Jose Aldo have come against Hacran Dias, Dennis Bermudez and former UFC lightweight title challenger Diego Sanchez.
This marks the third time Lamas, a Mexican-American, will have fought in Mexico while with the UFC.
Oliveira, also comes into the bout with a 3-2 record in his last five. The No. 8-ranked contender last stepped into the cage at UFC on FOX 21 in August, dropping a third-round submission to former UFC lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis. Oliveira had been riding a four-fight winning streak in 2014 and early 2015 before running into MAx Holloway last August. He followed up the streak-ending loss with a submission win over Myles Jury last December.
UFC Fight Night 98 is headlined by a lightweight clash between former champion Rafael dos Anjos and Tony Ferguson.
