A first-time meeting between two veteran bantamweight sluggers has been added to the year’s final UFC FOX card.
Both men are veterans from the days of the WEC, with Wineland serving as the now-defunct promotion’s very first bantamweight champion.
Since the promotion was absorbed by the UFC in 2011, Mizugaki and Wineland have both had up-and-down careers.
Mizugaki is coming off a brutal knockout loss to Cody Garbrandt at UFC 202. He has gone 1-3 in his last four bouts after running up a five-fight win streak from 2012 to 2014 prior to that.
Wineland is coming off a TKO victory over Frankie Saenz at UFC on FOX 20 when his back was against the wall with a two-fight losing streak leading up to the fight, putting him at 2-2 in the last two years of his career.
Both men are known for their aggressive striking styles that often lead to entertaining bouts, win or lose. Wineland, especially, is touted for his knockout power that has led a majority of his career wins to come by way of TKO or KO.
UFC on FOX 22 is scheduled to be headlined by a women’s strawweight bout between Michelle Waterson and Paige VanZant. In the co-main event, Urijah Faber is expected to fight the final bout of his legendary MMA career against Brad Pickett. Also featured on the card will be Sage Northcutt taking on Mickey Gall.
