Stepping into the Octagon as a challenger for the first time in her UFC career, Ronda Rousey will remain the betting favorite just as she always has throughout the tenure of her storied career with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Rousey will open as a -280 favorite over Nunes, who comes in at +220 for the UFC 207 main event. The odds come from Nick Kalikas of MMAOddsBreaker.com, who provided the information to Brett Okamoto of ESPN.
The title fight comes 13 months after Rousey was defeated for the first time in her pro career, suffering a second-round knockout to Holly Holm at UFC 193 last November.
“Rousey had an era of dominance, but there are many questions surrounding her now that she has not only been defeated but also knocked out,” Kalikas told ESPN. “This fight will boil down to who can utilize their strengths most. Will Nunes be able to keep this fight upright and do damage? Can Rousey close the distance with power or judo throws?
“Rousey is still one of, if not the most popular fighters of the modern era, so she’s still going to open a -280 favorite.”
While the odds are bound to change by the time fight night rolls around, Rousey has never been less than a -360 favorite in the UFC — a line she enjoyed against Sara McMann at UFC 170. She was most recently a -1650 favorite against Holm.
Nunes comes into the bout as one of several women who’s enjoyed a great deal of success in Rousey’s absence. While Holm defeated Rousey in November, she lost the title to Miesha Tate in her first title defense five months later at UFC 196. Tate went on to face Nunes in her first title defense, dropping the title to the Brazilian in the opening round.
