Showtime’s set to be home to two of boxing’s most anticipated bouts in 2017.
Announcing a slew of matchups for December through March, the network will host a rematch between Carl Frampton and Leo Santa Cruz on Jan. 28 and a welterweight championship unification bout between Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman.
Undefeated at 27-0, Thurman will come into the bout about nine months removed from his most recent defense of the WBA welterweight crown, defeating Shawn Porter in a highly entertaining, closely contested unanimous decision from the Barclays Center in New York.
Garcia, meanwhile, will first need to make good on his part of the deal by defeating Samuel Vargas on Nov. 12 in Philadelphia. The undefeated prizefighter most recently defeated Robert Guerrero via unanimous decision earlier this year.
Undefeated British WBA super featherweight champion Frampton will about six months separated from his title win over former titleholder Santa Cruz, whom he defeated via majority decision at the Barclays Center in July. Santa Cruz will look to make right on the only loss of his professional career, hoping to regain the WBA crown when defeating Abner Mares last August.
Also announced was the next bout for Adrien Broner, who looks to get back in the ring following his latest TKO victory in April.
