I still can’t believe I watch Raw every week and The New Day is my favorite thing on the show. It blows my mind the way this gimmick has altered the perception of Xavier Woods, Big E and especially Kofi Kingston. What makes the New Day work so well is they’re so goofy and entertaining, but there is consistency and respect for all three men inside the ring. They’re red hot as a group. It’s going to be extremely interesting to see how the group develops, and who emerges after the group is over.
A few days ago, Big E did an interview with Sports Illustrated and the idea of adding a fourth member to The New Day came up. Almost immediately, Big E selected Sasha Banks. What is especially interesting about that is adding a female member wouldn’t crowd the group or change the dynamic. A female member of The New Day could add a lot of variations to the group.
Here are seven possible Divas on the WWE roster that could join The New Day:
7. Sasha Banks
She was Big E’s choice and why shouldn’t it be? Sasha Banks is red hot right now with momentum, but she’s inconsistently on WWE television and she’s barely wrestling on TV. Banks obviously gets along with The New Day and adding her to the group would make them even more entertaining. She was Big E’s first choice for a reason.
The only issue is Sasha Banks doesn’t fit in with The New Day. Her character’s motivations aren’t to be positive and fun; they’re to be the best wrestler in the industry. She is The Boss of WWE. It would take a complete character change for her to join the group, but there’s no reason she couldn’t tag with them in mixed tag team matches.
Let Sasha Banks be herself and let The New Day be themselves. They’re both doing well on their own.
Cameron isn’t going to be wrestler of the year. She’s not what I would consider a good talent. She doesn’t have a character other than just being a heel, but she has an attitude. An attitude does a lot in this business. Cameron would make an efficient valet for The New Day. When Cameron was with Brodus Clay, she danced and backed him up to get his gimmick over with the fans. It worked. It could work again.
In The New Day, Cameron would be the female dynamic of the group. She is also a natural heel, and the arrogance of the group is a role not too far from her wheelhouse. She’s got dancing experience; she looks the part, has the attitude, and she’s a natural heel. If Cameron is to come back to WWE television, there isn’t a better role for her to find her grounding. It’ll at least give her something to do on television.
5. Alicia Fox
Alicia Fox has been in WWE for many years now. She’s failed to get solid momentum at any point in her career, but that’s not entirely her fault. Her booking has always been poor because she’s never been established as anything more than just another hand. She’s been getting more television time since the Divas Revolution, but she’s been playing the third wheel to The Bellas this whole time. She’s capable of something better. If she joined The New Day, she’d have a purpose for the first time.
Fox is a solid wrestler when she is booked to be. She’s got some charisma, but she hasn’t been able to create an on-screen persona. Alicia Fox joining The New Day would fix that. Fox could play the role of an annoying, pleasant and cocky heel of the group well. She’d get in-ring time and microphone time too. I see potential in Alicia Fox. I always have, but she hasn’t been given the chance to showcase her skills in the right way. The New Day would be a new opportunity for her to get over on her own.
Paige has her own character. She is the most accomplished Diva on this list. Her recent heel run has officially begun, but it’s been building for a month. This heel run of hers is different than her last one because it’s more about what she says on the microphone than just what she does in the ring. It’s given her three dimensions and made her a complete heel.
Paige is an intense character, so the possibility of her dancing and screwing with the fans sounds like a character change that could lighten her up. An alliance with The New Day could make Paige a different type of heel. I’m not sure she’d be singing and dancing, but if The New Day came out doing their schtick and Paige followed and represented a dominant female dynamic in the group, that could give The New Day an influence in the Divas division that makes them goofy, yet dangerous.
3. Tamina Snuka
I really like the idea of a dominant female presence within The New Day. There is something ironically funny about The New Day performing their shenanigans with a tough, emotionless Diva in the center. It’s a modern day example of what Chyna did for DX. It’s the perfect persona and role for Tamina Snuka who is also a third wheel in Team B.A.D.
She’s a notoriously serious character, so Tamina joining The New Day will either brighten her persona or she’ll be the ironic example of opposites attracting in the group. I can definitely see Kofi, Xavier and Big E dancing down the aisle while a cold, calculated and emotionless Tamina slowly follows. She’d be so ironically out of place that she would fit into the group. Tamina could finally be booked as a strong threat to the Divas Division. That would be good for her, The New Day and give someone new a chance.
Emma doesn’t deserve her current position in WWE. During her first run in NXT, Emma was an adorable face with a fun dancing gimmick. Her main roster run was an unfavorable mix of poor booking and worse personal choices. Since her return to NXT, she’s not much more than a good heel with wrestling ability that she rarely gets to utilize. Emma isn’t doing anyone any good as a midcard heel in NXT.
As a part of The New Day, Emma can resume her dancing and gain some heel heat for her matches. She’s a good wrestler, and her history with Paige makes her an immediate threat if she’s presented properly from the get go. The addition of a talent like Emma offers WWE with some dynamic intergender match-ups. It also gives Emma a real shot at being a heel in WWE given her history and talent.
There is no one who makes more sense to join The New Day than Naomi. As a heel, Naomi isn’t connecting to the character she is pretending to play. This isn’t Hollywood. It’s pro wrestling and there should always be an element of truth to what you’re saying, and what you are doing in the ring. Naomi is too likable. It shows through her heel promos as she tries to gain heel heat.
What makes The New Day great is their positivity is annoying, but it feels genuine. Naomi’s natural ability to be likable is the perfect person to provide The New Day with a female presence. She’s a great athlete, joining the group gives her heel turn a boost of momentum and she’s already been a back up to a similar group with Cameron. If the New Day is in need of a new female member, Naomi is the first choice.
