Longtime women’s featherweight menace Cris “Cyborg” Justino will start taking the necessary steps to make a blockbuster bout with UFC bantamweight Ronda Rousey happen.
According to Invicta FC president Shannon Knapp, the promotion’s featherweight champion will meet an unknown opponent in a catchweight bout of 140 pounds at Invicta FC 15.
Also currently in the realm of the unknown are a date and location for “Cyborg’s” sub-featherweight debut, Knapp announced at the Invicta FC 14 post-fight press conference in Kansas City, Missouri.
If Justino’s weight cut and performance go well, she’ll likely attempt to make the drop to 135 before committing to a fight with the sport’s biggest star, who is currently scheduled to defend her title against undefeated challenger Holly Holm in November.
Justino and her mystery opponent likely won’t be headlining the card, though, as the promotion looks to have its newly crowned strawweight champion Livia Renata Souza defend her title for the first time against undefeated Mexican fighter Alexa Grasso.
Souza earned the title in defeating Katja Kankaanpaa via fourth-round triangle choke at Invicta FC 12 in April. She’s currently undefeated through eight professional bouts, finishing seven of those fights by way of submission.
No other bouts or details were announced for the card.
