Hughes, Mitrione Feud Over Diaz Suspension

Dustin Bradford, Icon Sportswire

The MMA world has been consumed by Nick Diaz and his controversial five-year suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Ronda Rousey, Gina Carano, Joe Rogan, Gilbert Melendez, Tim Kennedy, Shannon Knapp, Jimmy Smith, Diego Sanchez and Chris Leben are just a few of the sport’s biggest names who took to social media to express concerns over the commission’s unfounded actions.

Fifth-ranked UFC flyweight Henry Cejudo even went as far as to express his intentions to refrain from competing in Nevada based on the ruling, his coach told MMAFighting.

But not every fighter, actively competing or not, seems to be on Diaz’s side.

Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes — who now serves as the vice president of athlete development and government relations — and his tweets didn’t sit well with UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione. Not one bit.

There’s no saying what Hughes actually meant, or claims to have meant. That said, many of the NSAC’s detractors don’t see Diaz’s attitude, punk or not, as a reason to punish a suspend a fighter for five years.
