It’s hard to ignore what changes Jon Jones has made to his physique since being reinstated by the UFC following his sentencing in September.
It seems as if the former UFC light heavyweight champion is setting a new personal record every week as he prepares his body for a return to the Octagon. And while it may not be official, his latest Instagram post may have offered better idea of when that return will be.
Jones, who posted a before-and-after photo of his transformed physique late Wednesday, claims he’ll be returning to the Octagon on April 23. Again, it’s important to note that this has not been confirmed by the UFC or anybody else familiar with the situation. It’s also important to note that the event in question is currently scheduled to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York — a state that currently outlaws mixed martial arts and a state that UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has vehemently refused to fight in, citing the unwarranted support Jones would receive in his home state.
Although not mentioned in the caption, Jones is expected to face off against Cormier in a rematch of their UFC 182 bout in January. Jones defeated Cormier in a five-round unanimous decision, but was stripped of his title months later for a felony hit-and-run in April.
Originally scheduled to defend his title against Anthony “Rumble” Johnson at UFC 187 in May, the previously suspended Jones was replaced for Cormier, who would now be fighting “Rumble” for the vacant strap at 205 pounds.
According to Bleacher Report’s Jeremy Botter, the UFC has plans to host the event in Anaheim if the promotion fails to legalize mixed martial arts by the date in April.
