The UFC looks to strike while the iron is hot, so it seems, as “Super” Sage Northcutt is now set to make his third Octagon appearance at UFC on FOX 18 in Newark, New Jersey.
Northcutt faces fellow undefeated lightweight Andrew Holbrook.
The 19-year-old rising star most recently fought at UFC Fight Nigh 80 on Dec. 10, submitting Cody Pfister in the second round of their main card bout in Las Vegas. The victory came just two months after his UFC debut in October, when he defeated Francisco Trevino via first-round TKO at UFC 192 in Houston, Texas.
Northcutt started his journey toward becoming a household name when featured on “Dana White: Looking for a Fight,” catching the eye of the UFC president while fighting for Legacy Fighting Championship.
Holbrook last fought at UFC on FOX 16 in July. He defeated former TUF runner-up Ramsey Nijem in a three-round split decision to carry his undefeated record to 11-0. The bout with Northcutt marks Holbrook’s second UFC appearance, previously competing for various smaller fight promotions.
Northcutt has previously competed exclusively on UFC Fight Pass. It’s not clear whether “Super” Sage will compete on the nationally televised FOX card, or if he’ll continue being a subscription-based commodity for the fight promotion.
The card — taking place at the Prudential Center on Jan. 30 — is headlined by top-flight UFC lightweight contenders Anthony “Rumble” Johnson and Ryan “Darth” Bader. Though it’s not confirmed, the winner of the main event is expected to be next in line for the UFC title at 205 pounds.
