WWE Superstar Randy Orton’s absence from RAW (and WWE’s recent tour of Mexico) was frequently mentioned on Monday night by WWE’s announcers on T.V. and fans on social media. Little information was shared by WWE, other than their attempt to work his absence into a storyline with the Wyatt Family.
On Tuesday, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer reported that Orton will miss significant time, including this Sunday’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, with a dislocated shoulder.
The extent of the injury is not yet certain pending the results of an MRI, and when he can return will be determined on whether if he needs or doesn’t need surgery.
In the meantime, Orton’s match for Hell in a Cell has been canceled — a tag team match with him and Dean Ambrose against Luke Harper and Braun Strowman. It has been replaced with a six-man tag team match pitting Sheamus, Rusev and King Barrett against Neville, Dolph Ziggler and Cesaro. That match will likely be a pre-show match.
Orton has been working through the injury but it got worse as he continued to wrestle. The Wrestling Observer notes that Orton has a history of shoulder problems stemming from injuries earlier in his career.
