Another day, another cover spot for UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.
Only a day away from defending her UFC title for the seventh time against Holly Holm at UFC 193, Rousey has been selected as the next fighter to grace the cover of EA Sports UFC 2. As an avid video game player, Rousey said she was pretty happy to find out she would be on the cover.
“EA Sports is a cultural barometer to know what’s going on in sports at the moment,” she said in a statement. “As a gamer myself, it’s pretty surreal to be on the cover of the game and to have a woman on the cover of a UFC game shows a lot of progress. I’m really happy to be involved with it.”
Only two other fighters have been featured on the cover of a UFC game created by EA Sports, with that honor going to former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and two-time title contender Alexander Gustafsson.
Prior to the UFC’s involvement with EA Sports, the promotion had released three games with THQ. Ultimate Fighter legend Forrest Griffin, former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and former pound-for-pound legend Anderson Silva were featured on those games, titled UFC Undisputed.
With that, Rousey becomes the third female athlete to be featured on an EA Sports title. Earlier this year, the company announced U.S. Women’s National Team forward Alex Morgan and Candada’s Christine Sinclair would share the cover of FIFA 16 with Lionel Messi.
Rousey defends her title at UFC 193 at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia Saturday, Nov. 14.
