Ultimate Fighting Championship President Dana White didn’t shy away from answering questions regarding the widely enamored, but recently fired cutman Jacob “Stitch” Duran Saturday night.
And he certainly didn’t shy away from answering them with that “Dana White” brash, either.
“He won’t be coming back. The crazy thing is, is first of all, we have 10 cut men that work here at the UFC. We have 10 cut men. (UFC CEO) Lorenzo (Fertitta) and I decided that we would hire cut men for the fighters early on when we started – when we bought the UFC, and ‘Stitch’ Duran needs to learn what the meaning of the word, ‘friend’ is. ‘Stitch’ Duran and I were never friends. We were work associates. We came up together in the boxing world and when we hired cut men he was one of the guys that we brought in here.”
Duran was fired last week for making unfavorable comments about the UFC’s recent pairing with world-renowned athletic apparel company Reebok, saying the deal cut off all sponsorships and hurt his finances.
Stitch has since rejoined the MMA world as a cutman for the World Series of Fighting’s event on Aug. 1, headlined by a middleweight title fight between two former UFC fighters Rousimar Palhares and Jake Shields.
Palhares was unceremoniously released from his Zuffa contract after a string of controversial leg-lock submission victories, with most critics arguing he held on long after his opponent tapped.
